Effective, gentle cleaning for the whole family
Liquid Soap (formerly called Liquid Soap Flakes) contains only pure soap derived from vegetable oils, with no added perfumes or ingredients, making them a great choice for lots of people and various garments. It's so gentle that it has been recently certified as being suitable for personal care use, such as handwash, shower gel and shampoo. No need to dilute it, just use straight from the bottle.
It's also essential for laundry, where gentle but effective cleaning is required:
- Delicates, woollens, silk lace, underwear, 'tech' gear etc
- Those with sensitive skin, eczema, psoriasis etc
- Babies, whose skin is more prone to irritation from chemicals
- Waterproof, sports and outdoor clothing.
Gentle on clothes, gentle on skin.
A baby's skin is thinner than an adults and more reactive to the environment for the first two years of their lives. Most washing powders contain ingredients such as enzymes, optical brighteners and fragrance. Many parents seek a more gentle alternative for washing baby's clothes if their child has sensitive skin. But with the exception of washable nappies, there's no need to do a wash separate from the family wash. Although Liquid Soap is gentle, it is also a very effective laundry product. If the load is heavily soiled, you may want to boost the cleaning power by adding some Soda Crystals or Oxi-Boost.
Sensitive Skin
If you have sensitive skin or are prone to allergies, you may find that your condition can be aggravated by some biological washing powders. A common irritant is the fragrance that are added to most laundry products. Many sufferers tell us they get relief by switching to Liquid Soap. It's so gentle that we've now had it tested and approved for use as a personal care product so you can use it as a handwash, shower gel and even as a shampoo.
Another common cause of skin irritation is believed by some to be fabric conditioner which is designed to leave a 'softening' residue on clothing. One alternative to fabcon is white vinegar, which is washed away in the rinse cycle and helps remove any detergent residue and hard water minerals.

Liquid Soap in the wash
The liquid is instantly soluble and does not form a gel in cold water. It can be used at cool wash temperatures, requiring less energy per wash. Liquid Soap is suitable for cleaning delicate fabrics including wool, lace, silk and leather. Ensure the drum is at least half full to prevent excessive foam.
Delicates and Waterproof Clothing
To use Liquid Soap in an automatic washing machine select the desired programme according to the garment washing instructions and use the following dosages. These are only a guide and will need to be adjusted depending on the amount of soiling on the clothes. So for example, if you have soft water and are washing clothes that have simply been worn (and do not have tough stains to tackle) the 1 capful should suffice. But if you have soft water, but the clothes are very dirty, then use 2 capfuls.
LIGHT SOILING
Soft water - 1 cap
Medium water - 1.5 caps
Hard Water - 2 caps
HEAVY SOILING
Soft water - 2 caps
Medium water - 3 caps
Hard Water - 4 caps
Cotton and 'normal' washes
If you're looking to find a substitute for your normal detergent that doesn't have phosphates, enzymes, bleach, fragrance or optical brighteners then Liquid Soap is ideal, but we recommend using in conjunction with Soda Crystals to help prevent soap scum formation and to 'boost' the cleaning power.
LIGHT SOILING
Soft water - 1 cap + 25g Soda Crystals
Medium water - 1.5 caps + 50g Soda Crystals
Hard Water - 2 caps + 75g Soda Crystals
HEAVY SOILING
Soft water - 2 caps + 25g Soda Crystals
Medium water - 3 caps + 50g Soda Crystals
Hard Water - 4 caps + 75g Soda Crystals
Of course, Liquid Soap can also be used for hand-washing too. If you were used to the old dry Soap Flakes, you will notice that the liquid variety don't lather as much; that's exactly the reason why they can now be used in the washing machine. The advantage of the new Liquid variety is that they disperse more readily and won't leave any un-dissolved bits on clothes. They are just as effective at cleaning. Simply add Liquid Soap to warm water and wash according to the garment's instructions, then rinse thoroughly.

Breathable/Waterproof Outdoor Fabrics
Liquid Soap is also ideal for washing breathable outdoor fabrics as the mild cleaning does not destroy the DWR (durable water repellency) waterproof coatings that other detergents can remove. It is also ideal for other outdoor gear, such as running, cycling, skiing and sailing gear. These can be damaged by some laundry products, particularly fabric conditioner.
Liquid Soap is also ideal for washing sleeping bags and wiping down tents. They can also be used on roap, sails and other sailing gear.
To achieve the best results, tumble dry the garments after washing to reactivate the waterproof layer. If required, re-proof the garment with a dedicated proofing product like our 2 in 1 Wash & Proof.
Liquid Soap can also be used for other cleaning tasks around the home.
